popular....

enter the japanese high school.

i am only repeating what most of my kids admitted to me. 'matt, i've never been so popular. i've gotten so many numbers. can i stay here?'

anime, manga, japanese language study... none of these w/ in the context of football, muscle car-SUVs, BBQ, and the war on terror can be interpreted as 'cool'. in japan, it all becomes neutral, and if you're a happy, semi-outgoing (white) american teenage, you're automatically a superstars. and this high school in tokyo welcomed us.

Matt! Ohisashiburi! It Erin, formerly of Tottori Uni (now sweating in Tokyo)...remember me? This is too damn random, but I was reading about Peace Boat, thought of you guys and went to the blog for the fun of it to see how you're doing...noticed this pic and I think I know one of your kids...or it really looks like her- her name was Melissa (girl w/ the glasses from Vancouver?) She was in my Japanese class in ShinKoiwa, I'm pretty sure (anyway if this is the right person) - funny our paths sort of indirectly crossed, if not, and I'm totally wrong - hope you guys are doing well. Sounds like you're having a lot of fun :)

hey erin,

wow! this is random. i heard that you moved out of tottori to bigger and better cities, but for some reason i thought it was osaka. we were actually in tokyo for 3 weeks.

about your question... all of our kids are from the states. the girl w/ the glasses is marina. i totally forget where she's from. she may have been to tokyo before. my memory is totally blanking.

how's life in that awesome city? rebekah and i totally loved it there. now we're back in austin still trying to figure out our next steps.

currently, i'm looking to make the move from teaching to 'interactive web design'. i think that's its official name. i started taking some classes to play catch up on some programs and got some freelance gigs.

next time we're in tokyo. we'll let you know.
